What do you get with Optimum Internet?

Optimum sells three residential internet tiers: 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps and 1 Gig, all delivered over its fiber-powered network. Every tier comes with unlimited data and no caps, no annual contract, free self-setup, and a price lock that holds your monthly rate for five years. In select areas Optimum also offers multi-gig speeds up to 8 Gig; those are address-specific, so ask on the call if you need more than a gig. The plan cards above list what each tier costs and delivers.

How much does Optimum Internet cost?

Advertised prices run $30/mo for 300 Mbps, $40/mo for 500 Mbps and $50/mo for 1 Gig. Those figures already include a $10/mo discount for enrolling in Auto Pay and Paperless Billing, so budget $10 more if you would rather not; taxes and fees are extra. The price is locked for 60 months, and after that Optimum says it will rise by no more than $15/mo per year until it reaches standard rates. The internet gateway is $0/mo for the first 12 months, then can rise by up to $5/mo per year. Optimum also backs new service with a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Is Optimum available at my address?

Optimum serves 21 states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. In sixteen of those states the network used to operate as Suddenlink; the Suddenlink brand was retired in August 2022 and the same lines now sell as Optimum. Availability is by address, not by state, so the quickest answer is one free call — we check Optimum and every other provider we compare at your address together. You can also browse our internet provider comparison or your state page for the other options nearby.

Which Optimum speed should you choose?

300 Mbps covers streaming, video calls and everyday browsing for a small household. 500 Mbps gives a family with several simultaneous streams and a work-from-home connection more headroom. 1 Gig — up to 940 Mbps download on a wired connection — is the pick for large households, 4K on multiple screens, big downloads and serious gaming. Upload speeds are lower than download on all three tiers (up to 20 Mbps on the 300 and 500 plans, up to 35 Mbps on 1 Gig), which is worth knowing if you upload large files or run cameras. Tell us how your home uses the connection and we will match the tier on the call.

Can I bundle Optimum Internet with TV or mobile?

Yes. Optimum sells its own TV service and Optimum Mobile, and pairing them with internet puts everything on one bill. Bundle pricing and any promotional cards change often and depend on your address, so we confirm the current bundle offer when we check availability. If Optimum does not serve you, our internet and TV bundles page covers the providers that can.

What to know before you order

  • No annual contract. Service renews monthly and can be cancelled at any time; a 60-day money-back guarantee applies to new service.
  • The advertised price assumes Auto Pay and Paperless Billing. Both must be maintained to keep the $10/mo discount.
  • The price lock is five years. After 60 months the rate can rise by up to $15/mo per year until it reaches standard pricing.
  • Gateway fee steps up after year one. $0/mo for 12 months, then no more than $5/mo per year.
  • New residential customers. Promotional pricing is for new customers in good standing and is not available in all areas.
  • Speeds are wired maximums. Actual speeds, especially over Wi-Fi, vary and are not guaranteed.
