Does Cox throttle Internet speed?

Cox never throttle Internet speeds. No blocking or otherwise interfere with your desire to go where you want to go on the Internet. Cox has always been committed to providing customers a quality, high-speed Internet experience. Bandwidth throttling can interfere with the download speed, upload speed and overall performance of your network’s Internet service.

Can I use my own modem?

Yes, Cox recommends devices using DOCSIS 3.0 technology. DOCSIS 3.0 is a leading technology and offers a high-quality Internet connection and overall experience. If you choose to purchase or use your own modem with your Cox Internet service, as of June 1, 2017, you are required to use a DOCSIS 3.0 or higher device in order to activate our service and achieve our top network speeds. Your connection speeds will never be impacted whether you choose to lease a modem with us or purchase your own.

Does Cox provide DSL or Cable Internet?

Cox provides Cable Internet Service where digital data is transmitted over existing cable lines to provide a high-speed Internet connection. Cable provides a more consistent Internet service as performance is not based on how far away from a central location you are like DSL. Additionally, cable Internet can offer higher Internet speeds as the cable wires provide a greater bandwidth than DSL.

Why does the speed of the Internet plan say "Up to XXMbps?"

Two things matter as it relates to the speed of your Internet connection: the download speed and the upload speed. Download is the speed at which your computer receives data from the Internet. What is wifi?

Wifi and Internet are 2 different things. Wifi is an alternative to cables connecting devices. Wifi gives you wireless access to the internet from anywhere in your home via a modem, which translates the signal from Cox.
