About two dozen eastern and northeastern Nebraska towns have a new internet provider on the bill. On 01-Oct-2026, Rightfiber said it had completed its acquisition of Fastwyre Broadband’s Nebraska business, moving Fastwyre’s customers in 26 communities, including Bellevue, Blair, Fremont and Wayne, onto the Rightfiber network.
Which communities are affected
According to Rightfiber and Broadband Communities (03-Oct-2026), the deal covers Arlington, Bassett, Belden, Bellevue, Blair, Carroll, Emerson, Fort Calhoun, Fremont, Herman, Homer, Kennard, Laurel, Lyons, Macy, Meadow Grove, Newport, Oakland, Osmond, Pender, Rosalie, Tekamah, Thurston, Walthill, Wayne and Winnebago. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Who Rightfiber is
Rightfiber is the combined brand of Nebraska-based Great Plains Communications and Ritter Communications, backed by investment firm Grain Management. The company says it now serves more than 400 communities in 20 states, with more than 28,000 fiber route miles and over 300,000 fiber-to-the-home passings. Executive Chairman Todd Foje said Nebraska has been part of the company’s story for more than 115 years.
The purchase was first announced in May 2026, when Great Plains Communications agreed to buy Fastwyre’s Nebraska operations. Broadband Breakfast reported at the time (22-May-2026) that Fastwyre customers were told they would gain access to Great Plains’ technical support, expanded service offerings and future network upgrades, with integration to happen gradually. Rightfiber now says system integration is under way and that it aims to keep the transition seamless.
What this means if you live in Nebraska
If you are a Fastwyre customer in one of the towns above, you do not need to do anything today: the acquisition changes who owns the network, not your service on day one. Expect notices about a new name on your bill, new support contacts and, eventually, any changes to plans or equipment. Neither Rightfiber nor the coverage reported any price changes, so read those notices closely when they arrive, and compare any new plan pricing with what you pay now.
A change of ownership is also a natural moment to check your alternatives. In smaller towns where Fastwyre was the only wired option, fixed wireless and satellite services such as T-Mobile Home Internet and Starlink may be the main comparisons; in Bellevue and Fremont you may have more wired choices.
