Florida Internet Update — September 2026: Comcast Reaches 2,300+ Clay County Homes, Wire 3 Expands in Port St. Lucie

Florida internet and broadband news

Two wired-internet expansions landed in Florida in the last week of September. Comcast says Xfinity and Comcast Business service is now live for more than 2,300 homes and businesses in rural Clay County, including more than 1,600 locations that previously had no broadband. On the Treasure Coast, fiber provider Wire 3 has enlarged its Port St. Lucie build plans, bringing its combined effort in St. Lucie County to $120 million.

Clay County: 2,300+ locations connected, 600 more under construction

In a 28-Sep-2026 announcement, Comcast said the new passings are in and around Clay Hill, Green Cove Springs, Keystone Heights, Kingsley Lake, Lake Geneva, Middleburg and Penney Farms. Construction is continuing to reach more than 600 additional locations, with completion expected by the end of 2026. Comcast describes the project as a public-private partnership with the state; it did not publish a grant amount.

Local coverage in Clay Today (27-Sep-2026) added that the new network is fiber-fed, with lines run to each individual home and business, and that the build focused on communities Comcast and county leaders identified as historically underserved. Clay is one of several Florida counties where Comcast is extending its network, alongside Bradford, Columbia, Glades, Highlands, Lake, Leon, Miami-Dade, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns.

Port St. Lucie: Wire 3 widens its fiber footprint

Wire 3 announced on 25-Sep-2026 that it is expanding its Port St. Lucie build in response to demand, building on its initial $12 million investment in the city. The company puts its combined St. Lucie County effort at $120 million. Wire 3 sells 100% fiber service with symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gbps. The announcement did not name the new neighborhoods or give a construction timeline, so residents will need to check their own address.

What this means if you live in Florida

If you are in one of the Clay County communities above and could not get cable or fiber before, it is worth re-checking your address now: Comcast says the first 2,300+ locations are already serviceable. If you are in the remaining 600-plus locations still being built, “by end of 2026” is a construction target, not a guaranteed install date. Compare plans on our Xfinity provider page.

In Port St. Lucie, an expanded build plan means more streets will eventually get a second wired option, which tends to help on price and speed. But an announcement is not availability; until Wire 3 confirms service at your address, your current provider is still your real choice. Where no wired option has arrived, T-Mobile Home Internet and Starlink remain the practical stopgaps.
